The oldest name of Varanasi is Kashi Banaras. Even today many people know it by the name of Banaras. Even in religious texts, this city has been glorified in the name of Kashi. This name is being spoken for about 3000 years. Kashi was also called Kashika many times. If we talk about the meaning of this word, then it means shining.
